Antique Folk Art Tramp Art Box

Antique Tramp Art Box from Sweden. A wonderful tramp art box from the late 19th century with notching, black painted accents and leather hinges. 

Tramp art's defining characteristics include the use of cheaper available woods such as that from cigar boxes, shipping crates and scrap wood that were then notched, layered, and/or whittled into picture frames, elaborate boxes and furnitures.

This charming handicraft flourished in the second half of the 19th century in Europe and America until it became a lost art around the same time as the Great Depression. These humble pieces, that have come to be regarded as their own art form, were often made by working class men, women and sometimes even children and have become highly collectable.

It is possible to combine shipping for a discount. To ship paintings together it is preferable they are similar in size. Refunds are sent normally the week after you have received your shipment when applicable.
