Matching Pair of Vintage Tramp Art Frames from Sweden. A pair of matching frames in a darker finish with a lot of nice detailed pattern.

Tramp art's defining characteristics include the use of cheaper available woods such as that from cigar boxes, shipping crates and scrap wood that were then notched, layered, and/or whittled into picture frames, elaborate boxes and furnitures.

This charming handicraft flourished in the second half of the 19th century in Europe and America until it became a lost art around the same time as the Great Depression. These humble pieces, that have come to be regarded as their own art form, were often made by working class men, women and sometimes even children and have become highly collectable.
